NJAS AMBASSADOR PROGRAM

Overview

The New Jersey Academy of Science (NJAS) Ambassador Program is an exciting leadership and service opportunity for passionate high school and undergraduate students who want to inspire others through science. Ambassadors serve as the public face of NJAS at schools, community events, and scientific outreach activities, helping to connect students, educators, and community members with the world of science and research.

Who can apply?

  • High school or undergraduate students with a strong interest in science, communication, and community engagement.
  • Students who are motivated, dependable, and ready to represent NJAS in public forums.
  • Must be an active NJAS member during their term of service.

Role & Responsibilities

Lead Community Outreach

  • Represent NJAS at school visits, science fairs, community centers, and other public events.
  • Share the mission and programs of NJAS with students, parents, educators, and community partners.

Support Educational Programming

  • Assist in developing hands-on science activities and educational materials for audiences ranging from elementary to high school students.
  • Help design engaging experiences that introduce young learners to scientific inquiry and real-world research.

Engage with Scientific Leaders

  • Help organize and host events where students can interact with scientists, researchers, and industry professionals.
  • Serve as Master of Ceremonies (MC) or panel host at NJAS events, fostering dynamic and welcoming discussions.

Act as Science Advocates

  • Promote STEM learning in the community and encourage young people to explore careers in science.
  • Build bridges between the scientific community and the public.

Commitment & Requirements

  • Voluntary position – this is an unpaid role designed for students passionate about service and leadership in science.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from events and outreach locations.
  • Flexible scheduling based on events, with occasional evening or weekend commitments.
  • Must maintain NJAS membership throughout their term.

Recognition & Benefits

  • After each year of service, Ambassadors will be recognized at the NJAS Annual Meeting and presented with an official Certificate of Service.
  • Develop public speaking, leadership, and event-hosting skills.
  • Gain hands-on experience in science education and community engagement.
  • Build a network with scientists, educators, and other STEM leaders.
  • Earn recognition and potential recommendation letters from NJAS leadership for exceptional service.
